SA: Labor vote on Monday: Smith =3

Mr Smith said he believed the move to bring the leadership issue to a head was a good thing.

"If we're going to have a fresh start, let's have a complete fresh start and get on
with it," he said.

"There's been plenty of media speculation about who has been saying what to who.

"Now that it's going to be all out there, people are going to be able to make judgments
and cast their votes.

"There's been plenty of speculation, plenty of hype.

"But I was saying as late as this morning, what you need to resolve these things is
for someone to stick their hand up and say they're challenging.

"Well, we've now got that and there will be a contest on Monday."

"From the Labor Party's point of view we have to resolve this issue one way or the other."
