- Officials in the Solomon Islands are trying to assess the damage caused by an earthquake,
followed by a tsunami, that hit the western islands this morning.

- A tsunami alert is still current for all NSW coastal waters. The alert saw some schools
evacuated and ferries cancelled.

- Peter Debnam has withdrawn from the NSW Liberal leadership contest.

- The Department of Foreign Affairs is trying to ascertain whether any Australians
are caught up in the Solomons disaster.

- NSW Premier Morris Iemma has announced the member for Blacktown, Paul Gibson, will
not be sworn into cabinet today, amid serious allegations.

- The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority will conduct an investigation into the
leaked details of Ian Thorpe's drug test.
